AN entrepreneur has described how faster broadband has transformed his firm, ahead of the SuperConnected Business conference in Essex.

Businesses are to meet key network suppliers including BT and Gigaclear, listen to digital experts and meet companies making full use of broadband connectivity.

One such business is Abacus Accountancy, set up by Paul Pritchard 12 years ago. He is to speak at the conference at Chelmsford City Racecourse on June 7.

The firm, of Lakes Innovation Centre, Braintree, has had access to superfast broadband since being enabled by Essex County Council’s Superfast Essex programme last year.

Mr Pritchard said: “It has improved our services we offer beyond recognition. It enables us to offer a more efficient service as we can easily upload and manage large files.

“Our internet telephone systems are also much more reliable.”

Chris Townsend, chief executive of the Government’s Broadband Delivery UK, will update the conference on national broadband plans.

Representatives from each network operator will discuss the impact their technology will have on the county’s broadband coverage.

The event will also feature speakers providing tips on making fast broadband work for businesses.

Mr Townsend said: “Bringing so many key players from the business, telecoms and digital sectors together in the same room will provide a thought-provoking and inspiring network and discussion opportunity. I strongly encourage local businesses to sign up.”

The conference is hosted by Essex County Council’s Superfast Essex programme and Newsquest Essex is the media partner.

Kevin Bentley, who is responsible for economic growth at Essex County Council, said: “Essex is a great place to do business, and with the ongoing rollout of superfast broadband it is becoming better equipped to help the local economy to thrive.

“This is an event small and medium enterprises in and around Essex will not want to miss.”
