SEALED bids will be made to buy a 12-acre parcel of land in Stanway which could become an outdoor golf facility.

O&H Properties wants to sell the land, opposite a site where 600 homes are being built by Persimmon Homes, which is allocated for outdoor leisure use by Colchester Council.

Chartered surveyor Whybrow has been asked to market the sale. Ewan Dodds, chief executive of Whybrow, said the sealed bid process is faster than waiting for a buyer to come forward with an offer.

While he could not name who has shown interest, Mr Dodds said: “The site is zoned for outdoor leisure purposes, not the sort of leisure that is being talked about at other leisure sites
around the town.

“That could be an outdoor golf driving range, something like that.”

Interested buyers have been told they can offer to pay for the site in one go or in instalments. A shortlist will be drawn up and bidders on it will be interviewed.

Contracts are set to be exchanged by June 17 before a detailed planning application for the site goes to Colchester Council.
