A popular nightspot is set for a rebrand after shutting its doors for the last time on Saturday, with the loss of a number of jobs.

Liquid Envy on Colchester High Street is set to be rebranded as an Atik nightclub and a makeover is planned by owners The Deltic Group.

The building, known as the Grand Theatre, has been run as a nightclub since 1986 when it was the Hippodrome. It continued to trade with other variations of the name until 2008 when it was converted into Liquid Envy by former owners Luminar who later changed to the Deltic Group.

Club manager Nick Jackson said it was likely to be five or six weeks before the venue was open again after revellers packed the dancefloor for the final time last weekend.

He said: “We have closed pending a refit, with Saturday the last night of trading under the Liquid banner. The club will still be owned by The Deltic Group but it will be changed into an Atik.

“There is no concrete date for when it will be reopened but we are looking at between five and six weeks and more details will be available in the forthcoming weeks.”

The Deltic Group was formed after Luminar collapsed into administration in 2011.
