A FOUR-STAR country house in North Essex is getting ready to launch a sommelier room as it reaches its third birthday.

Melissa Neisler Dickinson, sales manager of Wivenhoe House Hotel, says the room is nearing completion, with a solid oak floor already laid.

Small groups will be able to enjoy a fine-dining experience there.

Melissa says: “There will probably be an exclusive wine club, along with the private dining, and maybe even team-building sessions in there.”

And she says, coming up to its third birthday, the hotel is keen to promote its conference facilities – including free wi-fi, parking and lots of land – as well as its strong links with business in the region.

She says: “We have linked with the new Winter Wonderland in Colchester, of which we are going to be the main sponsors, and we have also got an art exhibition running through the hotel through our connection with Gallery Argentum, in Colchester. We have also been involved in the Roman River Festival and the Education Awards, which we sponsored and for which we hosted the judges’ lunch.” Since the £10m refurbishment in 2012, the hotel has made huge strides. It has recently appointed a new general manager, Oliver Brown, who has 21 years’ experience working in London.

Most recently, it established a groundbreaking partnership with three top London hotels – the Ritz, the Dorchester and Brown’s – which has seen staff and students at the Edge Hotel School, based at Wivenhoe House, getting tips from the very best in the industry.

Having served Brown’s afternoon tea for three months, and currently the Dorchester’s, treats from the Ritz arrive in December.
